Dominican Customs Registry (RUA)

If you receive courier packages in the Dominican Republic, the Dominican Customs Office (DGA) requires you to be enrolled in the RUA (Registro Único Aduanero). Here’s what it is and how to do it.

  • The recipient enrolls

The person who receives the package in the Dominican Republic.

  • There’s no number

You’re identified by your cédula, passport or RNC.

  • It’s done online

On the DGA platform, in a few minutes.

  • You do it once

It covers all your courier shipments.

What is the RUA?

It’s a DGA registry created by Regulation 01-2018, which governs shipments through courier companies. It separates people buying for personal use from those importing for commercial purposes.

Only purchases for personal use can enter tax-free when their value does not exceed US$200 (Decree 402-05). Even then, a small per-kilo fee may apply.

Who needs to do it?

The person who receives the package in the Dominican Republic. The DGA requires the RUA from anyone receiving goods through a courier service. If you send a package to a relative, your relative is the one who must be enrolled.

If your shipment is documents only, ask us: correspondence and documents have their own customs category.

How to enroll, step by step

  1. 1

    Go to the DGA platform

Open the Dominican Customs Office’s online services platform and find the Customs Registry (RUA) form. The platform is in Spanish.

  2. 2

    Fill in your basic information

Full name, cédula number (or passport if you are a foreigner; RNC for a company), phone and email.

  3. 3

    Add your address

The address in the Dominican Republic where you receive your shipments.

  4. 4

    Answer the import questions

State whether your purchases are for personal or commercial use, and whether they are for you or a relative.

  5. 5

    Register and activate

Click “Registrar”. You’ll get an email to activate your registration: open it and confirm.

  6. 6

    Give us your ID

When you ship, give us the same cédula, passport or RNC you used for the RUA, written exactly the same.

What happens without a RUA?

Customs holds the package until the recipient completes the registration. That delays delivery, so do it before you ship.

Need help?

We can help you fill it in: call us at +1 9293752165 or email [email protected]. For a package on hold, the DGA can be reached at [email protected] (include the courier’s name, the waybill number and the invoice).

Based on the DGA’s frequently asked questions (in Spanish), reviewed on October 27, 2026. Customs sets these rules and they may change; if in doubt, the DGA’s official information prevails. See also our shipping policy.
